KATE FITZGERALD
Kate Fitzgerald is an Associate with Mills Black LLP and a member of the Firm’s maritime and health care practices. Prior to joining the firm, she served as Senior Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Irma S. Raker on the Supreme Court of Maryland for the 2024 - 2025 Term. Before law school, Kate worked as a paralegal in Annapolis, Maryland, focusing on employment and real estate law, and spent eight years teaching humanities at a private school before shifting her focus to the law.
Kate earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2024. During law school, she served as Notes and Comments Editor for the Maryland Journal of Race, Religion, Gender, and Class, where her Note, Remnants of Caste: Black Farmers, White Farmers, Congress, and the USDA, was selected for publication.
Outside her legal career, Kate has a longstanding passion for sailing. She served as a deckhand aboard the S.S.V. Tole Mour in 2004, sailing among the Channel Islands off the California coast, and later as assistant engineer on the tall ship Mystic during voyages from New England to the Bahamas between 2007 and 2008. After returning to the Annapolis area, she worked as deckhand on the Woodwind schooners and as a mate aboard Neith, a Herreshoff 1907 cutter, in 2010.
Additionally, Kate worked as a freelance writer for MedStar Health, contributing articles on cardiovascular advancements for its newsletter, Center Scope.
